About AgriFuels

Vision:

AgriFuels contributes to a future where renewable energy is an integral part of an economically and environmentally sustainable way of life for the local community and across Australia.

The AgriFuels model works by vertically integrating the agricultural industry--maximising feedstock yields, producing sustainable farming practices, providing local employment, environmental improvements, a positive carbon footprint and superior products created by world’s-best-practices.

The AgriFuels model delivers project profitability and community benefits under virtually all environmental and economic conditions.

Mission:

AgriFuels' mission is to produce an environmentally and economically sustainable, vertically integrated model of renewable energy production that can be replicated across a broad range of geographic locations.

The model provides an integrated value chain of long-term sustainable farming, benefits to the local economy without disrupting existing community culture and providing sustainable profitability (without ongoing government subsidy) under a variety of potentially challenging conditions.

The Company:

AgriFuels was formed in 2006, leveraging more than two years of prior biofuels R&D across the Asia Pacific region.  The primary focus of AgriFuels is on the development and successful implementation of a vertically integrated agribusiness and renewable energy business model using sweet sorghum as the input feedstock.

The founders have assembled a team of experienced scientists, businesspeople and community leaders to manage the project.  Additionally, local, regional, national and international partners and industry experts with a broad range of skills in plant science, agriculture, business management and project delivery have been consulted to assist with the project.

The company will build its first biofuels production facilities on land that it has acquired in the Isis shire area in the vicinity of the Isis Sugar Mill near Childers, Queensland.

AgriFuels sustainable business advantage:

The AgriFuels project model is designed to create a long-term environmentally and economically sustainable farming model with produces biofuels, food and renewable energy that benefit the local economy, the local environment and Australian consumers.

AgriFuels' key points of differentiation from other biofuels producers are:

  1. End-to end control of the entire production process:

    • Control from crop cultivation, crop harvesting, crop processing and final product refining;

    • Control of costs from input to output = predictable profitability.

  1. Control of input costs to create long-term sustainability under any economic conditions:

  • Our biofuel input feedstock is based on sweet sorghum cane juice which is not a traded commodity and is set at a fixed price per metric tonne of cane;

  • Farmers can estimate the potential income per hectare based on a guaranteed sale price per metric tonne to AgriFuels.

  1. Ability to integrate with existing business:

    • Sweet sorghum cane can be harvested and transported using existing sugar industry infrastructure;

    • Other sugar sources such as molasses, sugar cane juice, sugar beet juice can also be blended with sweet sorghum juice for the production of biofuels;

    • Sweet sorghum bagasse can be used by local business for electricity generation, paper pulp production or for animal feed;

    • Crop roation with peanuts and legumes replenishes nitrogen and other soil nutrients and minimises need for additional (and expensive) fertiliser;

    • Excess electricity can be sold back to the public power grid to generate additional income for the project.
